Every year the Fire District invites the community to visit the fire station for a day of learning, fun and food. The district does this in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week each year. Fire Prevention Week commemorates the Great Chicago Fire, with hopes of boosting fire prevention awareness and safety during this week long campaign. This year’s theme is “Don’t Wait, Check the Date.” highlighting the importance of checking the expiration date of each of your smoke alarms.

What most people don’t know is that a smoke alarm does expire after years of faithful service. As a general rule, 10 years of service is the limit but check your manufactures’ recommendation. Working smoke alarms are a proven tool in saving lives so “Don’t Wait, Check the Date.” Having a working smoke alarm in your home cuts the chance of death from fire in half.

This year the district plans on having multiple demonstrations that will be geared at younger learners but also with important takeaways for the entire family. We encourage you to bring your children for a day of fun.
Come visit the Prospect Heights firefighters on Saturday, October 15, as we look forward to helping teach you and your family awareness about smoke detectors and fire safety. The event will be held at our main fire station located at 10 E. Camp McDonald Rd. A free hot dog lunch will be served at 1130 AM!
