A house scheduled for demolition was recently used to practice attacking actual fires. The homeowners plan to build a new home and graciously offered the PHFD use of the home for such training. These opportunities are extremely valuable and infrequent. By following safety procedures actual fires are ignited inside the building and then firefighters are sent to extinguish them. A variety of techniques can be practiced and improved this way. Over three days of training nearly all PHFD firefighters had multiple opportunities to practice their skills. The PHFD is extremely thankful to the homeowners for their generous support in this endeavor.
A firefighter makes an initial attack on one fire.
Much of Prospect Heights is without fire hydrants. Water is shuttled to the fire in our 3000 gallon tanker truck and then dumped into this yellow portable pond where it is then pumped to fire hoses being used to fight the fire.
Firefighters move the hose into the building to seach for victims and finish fire extinguishment.
