Using a minivan donated to the PHFD by Gene’s Village Towing of Wheeling, Prospect Heights’ firefighters fought several small and large actual fires. With the minivan set on fire portable fire extinguishers were used first followed by hoses. The hose used fog (spray) nozzles and a piercing nozzle. The piercing nozzle allows the auto’s body or the wall of a building to be penetrated and water then applied. Besides water, firefighting foam was also used. The training took place the week of August 3-8 and each session lasted about two hours giving all the firefighters plenty of actual fires to practice on.
