Each month nurse educators from the Northwest Community Emergency Medical Services System visit the PHFD fire station on all shifts and present a half-day program of continuing medical education to all paramedics. In August the program covered caring for pediatrics, children aged from birth to adult hood. Using skill stations and a child-sized manikin paramedics practiced administration of medications, intravenous fluids, and CPR. The focus was on rarely used skills and teamwork. Under the guidance of the nurse educator ensures all paramedics remain proficient. These monthly classes are invaluable in ensuring our paramedics are up to date and ready to respond and serve our residents.
