Scenes from the October 10 Annual Open House

This year's open house included a demonstration of the value of residential fire sprinklers. Two identical rooms were set on fire, one with fire sprinklers and one without fire sprinklers.

Within a few minutes the unsprinklered room (one of the right) was completely destroyed by fire and required a few hundred gallons of water to be extinguished. This fire would have filled the entire home with very hot, thick, black smoke and most likely spread the fire to at least one other room. The fire sprinkler-equipped room (one on the left) detected the fire early and used far less water to extinguish the fire. This fire would not have spread fire or heavy smoke to the rest of the home.

Wet items can be cleaned and dried. Burnt items are gone for good. Lives can never be replaced.
