At 4:06 p.m. on Monday, Aril 2 the PHFD were dispatched to a car crash at 100 East Palatine Road in Wheeling. Prospect Heights FD Engine 39 arrived to find a single car had driven off the road, went down an embankment, and lodged under the railroad bridge. Initially, firefighters could not locate the car until Prospect Heights’ crew walked into the grassy area and looked down the embankment. Prospect Heights and Wheeling firefighter/paramedics worked to remove and transport the driver up the embankment and to the hospital. Train service in the area was halted as a safety precaution until rescue efforts were completed.
