Prospect Heights Fire Protection District along with departments from Wheeling, Mount Prospect, Long Grove and Elk Grove Township responded for the reported structure fire in the 900 block of Edwards road. While fire department units were responding to the scene they were updated that a hot tub was on fire on the rear deck and the resident was fighting it with a garden hose. Battalion 9 arrived on the scene and had dark smoke coming from the rear of the building and confirmed that the fire was on the back deck and had not yet entered the building. Engine 9 advanced an attack hose to the rear of the building and applied water to the fire while other companies assisted in salvage efforts, water supply and checked for extension. Due to the quick thinking of the resident to use a garden hose and the type of construction of the building the fire was not able to enter the structure. No occupants or firefighters were injured during this emergency.
