For the past three weeks members of the PHFD have been involved in a regional training exercise with 18 other fire departments. The focus of this training was a simulated disaster with persons trapped in collapsed buildings and damaged autos. Practice included the stabilization, movement, and dismemberment of the structures and autos and then carefully removing the victims to safety. In the spring and fall of each year the PHFD participates in these regional training exercises which are designed to prepare firefighters for the hazards and challenges they face. It also provides to opportunity to work with other fire departments so procedures and equipment are standardized removing uncertainty and confusion when faced with these larger events. As a member of MABAS Division 3 and NIPSTA the PHFD receives this training at a small fraction of the full cost using facilities it could never own or develop on its own.
