On August 5th, members from the Fire, Police, Park District, and City Hall all joined hands to promote the 31st Annual National Night Out. What is National Night Out (NNO)? Here's an excerpt from their website:

"The introduction of National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime”, in 1984 began an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. NATW’s National Night Out program culminates annually, on the first Tuesday of August (In Texas, the first Tuesday of October)." http://natw.org/about/

This year we had a wonderful turnout from the residents here in Prospect Heights. There was even a shuttle that ran from the east side of town to the Morava Center where the activities centered.

People got to see police cars and fire apparatus and even a mock accident scene. Then fire district crews demonstrated the jaws of life and how we operate at an accident scene. Everyone there had a great time and one child on the way home on the shuttle was heard to say "this was the best day of my life". It's good to know that we can have an impact on someone's life in even the smallest of ways.
