On Sunday, October 5 at 11:45 a.m. firefighters were dispatched to a possible apartment fire at 509 Love Drive. On arrival dark smoke was seen coming from the building’s upper floor windows. When firefighters reached the apartment they needed to wear their air masks and force in the door because the residents were not home and the smoke was steadily streaming out around all sides of that door. It was quickly determined that the fire was confined to the stove which was on and left unattended. The food being cooked and its pot were burned completely and smoke covered the entire interior of that apartment. The small fire was quickly extinguished and the smoke removed using heavy duty fans carried by the fire department. No fire had yet spread to the cabinets or other portions of the apartment.

Firefighters remind everyone that a stove or oven should never be left on when not attended by a teenager or adult.
