Prospect Heights Squad 9 responded to Arlington Heights Fire Station 2 and provided coverage for the village while AHFD members battled a kitchen fire. These "change-of-quarters" happens routinely when a community's fire department commits all its personnel and vehicles at one fire. The change of quarters company then stands by in the stricken community's fire station in case there is another emergency. Once the original fire is extinguished the assisting department returns to its own town.

Arlington Heights firefighter responded about 2:28 PM Saturday to a fire in a kitchen 2519 North Ridge Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. 9-1-1 reported that an appliance was on fire in the kitchen. Police arrived first and reported smoke in the house. AHFD Engine 4 firefighters pulled a line through the front door and crews upgraded to a working fire response at about 2:33 p.m. Fire was reported “knocked” at about 2:39 p.m. and crews started overhaul of the interior.

While Squad 9 was in Arlington Heights, the city of Prospect Heights remained protected by Ambulance 9, Engine 39, and Battalion 9. In the event of a large fire in Prospect Heights, Squad 9 would also respond and different fire department would then cover the other community.
