Our 1996 “Squadzilla” is headed for semi-retirement at the Jay Vermont Volunteer Fire Department. Squadzilla was nicknamed by visiting children due to the dragon cartoon on her side.

Purchased new in 1996, Squadzilla was originally designed to bring every conceivable tool to the scene of an incident due to the fact that back in the 90’s we only had 3 firefighters on duty manning one vehicle, said Chief Gould. With increased manpower and increased incidents, we felt a smaller Squad would help reduce fuel and maintenance costs. We now have the ability to get resources on the scene as needed.

Advertised for sale over the internet, Assistant Chief Jeff Morris and Captain Brent Grenier of the Jay Fire Department flew into Chicago to inspect the vehicle. After the sale, Squadzilla began its journey to Jay Vermont, about 1,000 miles from here and only 2 miles from the Canadian border.

We wish the Jay Volunteer Fire Department good luck with our old friend, she served us all well.
