About 4:30 a.m. on June 16 Prospect Heights firefighters responded to a house on Derbyshire Lane. Occupants reported there was smoke in the basement. A fire in the electrical panel was discovered. ComEd was requested to respond as the panel could not be shut off and there was an issue with the electric meter as well. Firefighters cleared the house of smoke and stood by until ComEd arrived. No injuries were reported.

Prospect Heights firefighters remind everyone that working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms are essential for early warning of occupants and to permit safe escape from these hazards. Firefighters cannot help with the occupants are unable to call 9-1-1 in a timely manner.
