On June 24th, 2015 Lieutenant Andrew Plonski and Administrative Assistant Lauren Clausen attended the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance’s (IFSA) Camp “I Am Me.” Camp “I Am Me” is a weeklong camp in which children and teenagers who have experienced injuries from burns get to spend time together participating in various activities while camping out at the YMCA Camp Duncan in Ingleside, Illinois. IFSA is able to provide this experience to campers at no cost thanks to generous donors, supporters and volunteers. The mission of IFSA and Camp “I Am Me” is to “provide this safe, non-judgmental environment for children to have the opportunity to build their self-esteem as they enjoy the varied activities that make up their camp experience.” Each year the camp holds a Fire Apparatus Parade and Appreciation Day in which departments from all over Illinois come to spend the day with campers and bring along a rig to display in the annual parade and take along a camper or two for a ride. This year was an extremely special year as it marked IFSA’s 25th annual Camp “I Am Me” and the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District was honored to be able to be a part of it.
