James A. Cagney
Past president
Served from 1996 until 2015
Born and raised in Oak Park, Trustee Cagney completed his undergraduate and graduate courses of study at Chicago’s Loyola University, majoring in American History. He is married to a Mundelein College graduate and they have 5 children.
Most of Trustee Cagney’s professional career was spent working for a major publisher’s textbook division. During his tenure he held a variety of positions in the sales, editorial and administrative departments. When he retired he was the Senior Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer. Shortly after retiring, the Department of Commerce appointed him as its interim District Director for the United States Census Bureau. He has also served as Ward 2 alderman on the Prospect Heights City Council.
Since being first sworn in as a trustee of the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District in 1996, Trustee Cagney has served as its treasurer, secretary and, during the last decade, as its president. He has witnessed many changes as the District expanded its borders, hired full-time firefighters and purchased new state-of-the-art equipment. He is very proud to be associated with such loyal and dedicated members of the fire protection service.
