| On Sunday August 3 at approximately 3PM the Prospect Heights Fire District was dispatched to a report of a fire in a home on Cove Drive in Prospect Heights. On arrival firefighters noticed a fire on the outside had travelled up the wall to the roof line. A hose was taken into the home, and fire was located throughout the attic. Other firefighters raised ladders to the roof and began to cut open the attic to improve the effectiveness of the fire attack. This also released the trapped heat in the attic and allowed for more rapid extinguishment.
Nearly 50 firefighters from Wheeling, Glenview, Des Plaines, Niles, North Maine and Northbrook assisted the Prospect Heights crews. No one was injured but all four homes in the building were damaged resulting in those families being unable to occupy their home until repairs are made.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is not believed to have been intentional. |
